The Yate Hub is now open as part of the Yate West Gate Centre, with our staff safely in alongside each other. Huge thanks to everyone for making the move go so well, and we look forward to hearing about their experiences of being able to work together jointly focusing on the Yate locality needs.

We have recently had a very short notice inspection of our Integrated Youth Support Services. This relates to how all partners are working together to support teenagers in the context of our 0-19 integrated model for delivering services. The inspectors focussed specifically on ‘Targeted Youth Support’ and ‘Positive Activities’ themes with their initial feedback indicating strong partnership working, ambitious and well thought through model of integrated delivery and overall ‘good’ grades in relation to these themes.

Vinney Green Secure Unit was inspected in February and whilst we are awaiting the final report, initial feedback was positive suggesting at least a “good” judgement. The inspection highlighted the progress made since the last full Inspection in Feb 09, when the majority of provision was also judged to be good.

Our local efforts to integrate services for young people are reflected in our relatively low and gradually falling teenage pregnancy rates. Recent national data showed South Gloucestershire has reduced under 18 conception rates by 14.2% since 1998.

It is good to know that the provision for our teenagers, whether for all of them or for the targeted vulnerable groups, is secure. I am sure you join with me in sending congratulations to all involved.

Drop in Teenage Pregnancy Rates in South Glos - added 08 March 2010

Teenage pregnancy rates in South Gloucestershire have fallen by 14.2 per cent, according to recently released figures. The provisional 2008 under-18 conception rate for South Gloucestershire was 29 per 1,000 girls aged 15-17; a decrease of 14.2 per cent since 1998.

New Relate Counselling Service for Young People - added 08 March 2010

Relate Avon are expanding their services to provide counselling for young people between the ages of 10 and 18. If you have a young person who is troubled as a result of family break-up; having problems with school or friendship relationships; upset by new living arrangements or grieving as a result of separation or bereavement, they may be able to help. These also lead to some new pages called 'Key Cross Cutting Themes' which identifiy priorities from our 2008 comprehensive data audit and needs analysis - forming the basis of our 2009-2012 Children and Young People Plan.

Aiming High for Young People: Engaging Through Social Media - added 03 March 2010

The DCSF have created a set of materials to help communicate and collaborate with young people through social media and inspiring video content. This advice will reach out to a youth audience by promoting activities and encouraging innovative ways of communicating.
