Southern Brooks Early Intervention Work Minimize

Southern Brooks Community Partnership work closely with the PCSOs and the police who drop in regularly to all our projects. They originally collaborated with the police in order to provide football training sessions for young people with the aim of reducing anti social behaviour in the area (20 young people per week.) The PCSOs have confirmed that the project works and anti social behaviour is much reduced in the area on the evenings football takes place. There has been confirmation from the local Inspector that the project and ones similar to this are imperative to reducing crime and anti social behaviour.

There has also been a five aside match against the police 13/06/09 where 30 of our young people turned up to play against 5 police officers! There are many quotes regarding this activity but the general consensus was that the event was a fantastic relationship builder and that the young people are looking forward to playing them again. The event was held in order to enable police to build relationships with young people and for young people to feel comfortable to report crime and feel safe in their community.

PIP

PIP provides support for children and young people from 8 to 12 years old who are experiencing difficulties at home, in school or within their local community. The programme accepts referrals from the CAF (Common Assessment Framework) Multi-agency panel that is held each month.  Pip initially coordinates a 12 week programme designed specifically to focus on the needs of the child or young person through individual 1-2-1 support and small group activities.  The programme is designed after speaking to parents and other agencies that may be involved with the child or young person and recognises both the risk and protective factors within their environment.

Recent successes for group activities:
A Communication group that focuses on positive interactions with others and seeks to raise self-esteem and resilience. A cooking group that seeks to build self-esteem and the awareness of healthy eating was initially piloted for 6 weeks by a Bristol University Social Worker on placement with PIP and will form part of an ongoing programme for September 2009.

Summer 2009: A programme of activities chosen by the young people, designed to motivate and challenge them. We use orienteering, sailing, mountain biking, raft building and outward bound activities and camping to build team work and feelings of self-worth.

PIP Allotment Community Makeover Challenge - A gloriously sunny day and a fantastic team building experience attended throughout the day by 22 adults and 12 children from Heart FM, Orange Thumb, local families in the community, a student social worker from Bristol University who had volunteered to join us after being on placement with PIP and various members of the Family Services and Children’s fund project from Southern Brooks.  Read more.....
