The Joint Area Review will evaluate the way local services, taken together, contribute to the outcomes achieved by children and young people living in South Gloucestershire. It is a single co-ordinated inspection of all publicly funded services for children and young people in the local area. It replaces the separate inspections of local education authorities, social services, connexions and provision for 14-19 year olds.

The JAR will examine the leadership and management of services and the way they work together to support children and young people to:
All partners who contribute to improving the lives of children and young people, including the voluntary and community sectors, will be covered in the review, as will the effectiveness of the arrangements for co-operating to improve outcomes.
The review team for the JAR will be multi-disciplinary. Inspectors will have knowledge of the services to be inspected.
The JAR takes place at the same time as the Council’s Corporate Assessment, and the processes will run together as far as possible. The JAR will lead to a single published report and give a grade for children and young people’s services.
The Council will then prepare an action plan to address the issues identified in the report.
