Our Vision
Professional Learning Communities make a difference.
| Definition of a PLC :
‘a professional learning community is an inclusive group of people, motivated by a shared learning vision, who support and work with each other, finding ways, inside and outside their immediate community, to enquire on their practice and together learn new and better approaches that will enhance all pupil’s learning’ Louise Stoll et al
Being a part of a Professional Learning Community in a pro-active and engaged way, allows everyone to make the most of every initiative and activity. This impacts upon the learning and development of all children and young people.
|
In the Department for Children and Young People we are seeking to inspire learning in and across all organisations supporting the development of children and young people in a more determined and collaborative way. This ensures that professional development at all levels is of the highest quality and engages everyone. All people who engage in the education and development of a young person are to be viewed as ‘professional’; they can all make a contribution to the learner.
At the heart of a PLC, is an agreed set of core values, fundamental to the operation and future direction of the community. The Department for Children and Young People in South Gloucestershire seeks to operate as a PLC, acknowledging existing communities that already function successfully. This framework does not attempt to constrain, rather, provide a springboard for future thinking to ensure the inclusion of all who share a desire to see young people grow.
Why use keys to represent a PLC?
The obvious visual representation is a set of complementary keys that unlock new opportunities and together builds a learning community. We hope that you will want to now unlock the potential of your organisation, finding the appropriate keys to ensure that every individual has a personalised and appropriate route for their professional learning.
