A partnership workforce for children and young people in South Gloucestershire Minimize

The South Gloucestershire Children and Young People's Plan sets out our shared vision to raise achievement and promote the wellbeing of all children and young people. The Children and Young People Workforce Strategy is critical to improving the lives of children and young people by ensuring:

  • all children and young people's organisations and services work together so that the child or young person is at the centre of all services;
  • people working with children and young people are competent, confident and safe to so do;
  • people aspire to be part of this workforce and want to remain part of it; are able to develop their skills and build satisfying and rewarding careers;
  • parents, carers, children and young people trust and respect people working with them.

Our draft workforce strategy sets out our 6 priorities for delivering our aspirations for our workforce over the next 2 years.

2010-12 Children and Young People Workforce Strategy

The strategy has been developed through partnership with representatives from South Gloucestershire statutory, private and voluntary organisations. Consultation ended on 11 June 2010 at 5.00pm and we are now awaiting analysis of the results.

What is it?

The South Gloucestershire Compact, Getting it Right Together is a partnership agreement between South Gloucestershire Council, other public agencies and the voluntary and community sector

The Compact is a tool to improve partnership working and has set out agreed principles and codes of practive for working together.  It clarifies the relationship between the sectors and creates a mechanism to review and address emerging issues.

How does it affect you?

As a representative of an organisation that has signed up to the Compact, it should guide the way that you work with partner organisations.  Your working arrangements must follow the Compact's Codes of Good Practice.

What are the Codes of Good Practice?

  • Consultation, communication and policy appraisal
  • Public Sector investment
  • Equalities

Workforce mapping project Minimize

The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) funded this short-term project to track the current capacity of the children's services workforce in South Gloucestershire. This mapping project is sponsored by South Gloucestershire CVS and South Gloucestershire Council Department for Children and Young People. The project’s first aim is to identify the current skills base and qualifications against the actual requirements in order to identify the priority skills gaps to be addressed.

Professional Learning Communities Minimize

What is a professional learning community?South Gloucestershire Professional Learning Communities Logo - bunch of keys

‘a professional learning community is an inclusive group of people, motivated by a shared learning vision, who support and work with each other, finding ways, inside and outside their immediate community, to enquire on their practice and together learn new and better approaches that will enhance all pupil’s learning’  Louise Stoll et al

Being a part of a Professional Learning Community in a pro-active and engaged way, allows everyone to make the most of every initiative and activity. This impacts upon the learning and development of all children and young people.

The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme and Best Practice Fora, as well as multi-agency development opportunities mapped against the Every Child Matters priorities are available from the South Gloucestershire PLC website.
